Launched in 1991, the Orkney International Science Festival is a sparkling mix of fascinating science from the very frontiers, coupled with the sheer enjoyment of a festival in an island setting.

Held every September, the Festival has over the years developed a distinctive style, with family activities, music and food and drink events amongst the varied talks by speakers.

The programme regularly includes workshops, exhibitions and walks, focusing on everything from genetics to geology, and from relativity to renewables. Most events are free and, in recent years, have also been held online, offering people from the around the world the chance to experience Orkney and our islands of innovation.

Keep up-to-date with the latest news and programme information on the official website, which also features a very lively online magazine of science and exploration.
