    On the outskirts of Stromness, just a short walk from the town is Ness Battery – one of Britain’s best-preserved wartime sites and the only remaining gun battery with World War II huts intact. Embark on a fascinating tour and learn about this important relic of Orkney’s wartime heritage that once defended Scapa Flow against enemy attack during two world wars. Visit the gun emplacements, control tower and wooden accommodation camp, and don’t miss the remarkable Mess Hall mural.
