With summer on the horizon, Orkney’s food, drink, and crafts makers are already busy keeping our shops fully stocked for locals and visitors alike.
They’re also welcoming new customers at their workshops and studios, and at special events, across the islands.
In amongst it all, many of our talented producers have still found time to create some fabulous products, ranging from handcrafted jewellery to delicious locally-roasted coffee.
We’ve picked out some of our favourite new items from our Creative Orkney and Orkney Food & Drink members that you can buy locally or online now.

Better known for his unique homeware range, Orkney’s very own Harray Potter, Andrew Appleby, has turned his hand to something a touch more spiritual. His range of Neolithic House Gods and Goddesses are inspired by Neolithic grooved ware and the ancient Westray Wife figurine, uncovered in Orkney in 2009. These 6cm tall charms are said to spread spiritual karma throughout their new homes.
Orkney has become a bit of a coffee hotspot in recent years and now a link-up between two local producers offers something special for anyone craving a cuppa. Lochside Roasters has created an exclusive coffee blend for Highland Park, bringing together beans from Brazil and Papua New Guinea. Together they give the coffee notes of warm spices, chocolate, nuts, and cherries, which is designed to pair perfectly with Highland Park's whisky.
You can pick up the coffee at Highland Park’s Orkney shops, both at the Distillery and on Albert Street in Kirkwall.
Much loved local artist Jane Glue has been hard at work recently creating new, beautiful paintings depicting Orkney and its elements in all their glory. Her large paintings of the Birsay cliffs and an approaching winter storm showcase all her talents and feature the textures and colours synonymous with the islands. These mixed media works are made using watercolours, inks, and various added collage, including vintage Orkney maps. They’re truly unique takes on some quintessential Orcadian scenes. You can view them both and buy directly from Jane’s official website.
The latest concoction from the Orkney Distillery is its Tony Negroni, a cocktail that has become a firm favourite in the Distillery bar and is mixed with its award-winning gin. Inspired by a member of the distillery team and his Italian heritage, Tony Negroni is full-bodied and remarkably smooth, with vibrant juniper and pine combined with notes of dried fruit and toasted oak. Expect some subtle smokiness, hints of liquorice, and sweet spice. Buy your bottle in the Orkney Distillery shop or via the official website.
One of Creative Orkney’s newest members, Orkney Perfumery has launched two Eau De Parfums for women, each inspired by Orkney’s beauty and storytelling heritage. Ellen Jean and Mary Muir are both crafted in small batches at Orkney Perfumery’s base in Deerness. The business has just opened a shop where visitors can test the fragrances first hand, with scent tours available too. It’s open Mondays to Fridays between 2pm and 5pm, and at weekends between 10am and 5pm. The perfumes are also available to buy in a range of local shops.
A trip to Skaill House should always been on your Orkney itinerary, but this summer there’s an extra special reason to visit this West Mainland attraction. Now you can enjoy a delicious affogato in the shadow of this fine old home, made with a blend of Ugandan and Brazilian coffee from Lochside Roasters, and featuring Orkney Ice Cream. Kiddie’s affogatos are also available, all crafted in a uniquely converted horsebox. Whether you’re visiting Skaill House, Skara Brae, or walking at the Bay of Skaill, why not treat yourself to a little taste of Italy in this beautiful corner of Orkney at the same time. The coffee box is open Wednesday - Saturday between 10am and 3pm.
These new pieces from Stronsay jewellery designer, Marion Miller, are handcrafted in silver and inspired by how the sea scatters shells, pebbles, and sea glass on the shoreline across Orkney. The rings feature 9ct pebble and barnacle details, with the blue sapphire on this particular ring set in 9ct gold. Each ring is made individually by Marion in her island workshop, so they very much are one-of-a-kind.
