'Local Heroes' Exhibition Launch in Edinburgh

Local Heroes design exhibition launch featuring Orkney-based knitwear designer Hilary Grant

The 'Local Heroes' design exhibition launched last week at Edinburgh Airport - featuring Hilary Grant's specially commissioned 'Archipelago' travel blanket.

Local Heroes redefines contemporary Scottish design by bringing together Scotland’s leading designers in an exhibition developed specially for Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.

The exhibition features exciting new commissions which explore the notion of the souvenir and the theme of travel. Installed at Edinburgh Airport during the largest cultural festival in the world — The Edinburgh Festival — Local Heroes will be accessible to a predicted 1.2 million passengers spanning 120 international destinations.

A series of short films were made by Future Positive to show a snapshot into each designers process.

You can vist the exhibition by catching the bus or tram to the entrance plaza at Edinburgh Airport or it's satelite exhibition in the city centre at the G&V Hotel on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

In addition to the exhibition - there will be a series of events, including a panel discussion with Local Heroes designers including Hilary Grant on the Saturday 13th of September. You can find out more information and book a ticket here.
