Orkney will have a strong presence at a major Christmas retail show being held in Glasgow next week, with 18 creative, food and drink sector businesses from the islands set to attend the event.
Eight businesses belonging to Creative Orkney and ten local food and drink firms – all members of Orkney Food and Drink - will take part in the Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair, running between 21 and 24 November.
Their attendance at the event is being supported by the Orkney Marketing Scheme, a joint initiative between Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Orkney Islands Council (OIC).
Destination Orkney will also be partnering with VisitScotland to promote Orkney as a visitor destination at the fair, staged in the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).
Billed by organisers as a chance to step inside the pages of Country Living magazine, the event covers everything from gift and home styling ideas, to cookery demonstrations and live entertainment.
Edgar Balfour, project manager for Orkney Food and drink, and Creative Orkney, said: “The Country Living Christmas Fair is an important event for Scottish retailers in the lead up to the festive season, showcasing a wide range of high-quality goods from across the country to a very large number of shoppers.
“Orkney always makes a big impression at the fair and we’re delighted to be heading to Glasgow with such a good spread of local food, drink and creative businesses. I’ve no doubts the Orkney contingent will again be one of the biggest draws as people are always amazed by the sheer variety of what we produce in the islands, across the sectors. It’s also a great opportunity for us to tell the stories behind our products and goods and explain more about Orkney too.”
