4G mobile internet is now available in some parts of Orkney, with plans in place by providers to increase coverage later in the year.
EE, O2 and Vodafone UK have all confirmed their 4G services are now available to some customers in the islands.
The first of five EE sites in Orkney has been switched on which will benefit people in and around Kirkwall. The company’s four other sites will be activated later in the year which should improve services for other areas, including the north and south isles.
Those using EE’s 3G and 2G services should also notice an improvement as part of the upgrade.
O2 has completed work on one of its masts to provide 4G in Kirkwall with further work set to follow. Vodafone has also confirmed the roll-out of its 4G services in parts of Orkney too.
