The Water Sound Bluegrass and Roots Festival is a three-day celebration of bluegrass, country, Americana, blues and roots music in Burray, Orkney. Held every July, the festival features world-class international and local artists, workshops, jamming, camping, great food and a warm community welcome.

Water Sound Festival brings together an international lineup of visiting virtuoso bluegrass and roots artists combined with incredible Orkney-based talent playing bluegrass, country, Americana, blues and related styles of music. The festival encourages visitors to come and stay for the whole weekend and become completely immersed in the wonderful atmosphere.

The festival truly is a community event, being delivered by Burray Community Association working with local charities and businesses to meet the needs of festival goers whilst supporting good causes. The festival is all held in a large main Marquee Stage and Community Hall within Burray Village with camping on site and runs through from Friday evening to Sunday night. Food is available through the weekend and the Marquee houses the festival bar.

In addition to three days of live music, there are workshops where festival-goers have the opportunity to learn from visiting musicians. Sessions are positively encouraged with space available for jamming and led-sessions in a range of styles organised.

The festival prides itself on being an inclusive event with outreach concerts to members of the community who may have difficulty accessing the festival.

It’s simply a wonderful weekend of fun, incredible music and a friendly atmosphere that will mean you won’t want to leave.
