St John’s Kirk - Walls Heritage is a volunteer trustee-run venue offering information on North Walls and Brims areas of Hoy and local family history as well as a lovely, peaceful place to visit.

St John’s was a Church of Scotland kirk from 1881 - 2000. It is now being developed as a heritage resource for North Walls and Brims. It continues to be available for marriages, funerals and community events. It is set on the beautiful bay of Longhope

As well as staging exhibitions, we hold a growing resource in the vestry (far end of building), which includes folders containing family history, local censuses, information on graves in the kirkyard, maps of the area, information on some of the individual crofts and farms.

So, whether you have family roots in North Walls/Brims or an interest in the heritage of the area or are just looking for peace and quiet in a lovely setting, do come and pay us a visit!

There are no toilets in the building.  The nearest public toilets are at Lyness pier and Longhope pier, about three miles in either direction.
