Scottish Sea Farms produces 30,000 tons of delicious farmed salmon each year, from sites across Scotland, including a number of award winning sites in Orkney waters. This Scottish quality food product is sold to the UK’s top retailers and restaurants and is exported around the globe. Scottish Sea Farms has over 400 employees and a turnover in excess of £100 million and is the second largest producer of farmed salmon in the UK.

Scottish Sea Farms arrived in Orkney in 2007 and since then has invested £15.1 million in infrastructure and currently provides 45 full-time jobs at sites across the Orkney region.

There is a growing demand for premium-tier Orkney salmon and new sites in Orkney waters will hopefully continue to increase salmon production from this area. New sites have already created much needed skilled, full-time employment, as well as trainee and graduate positions in Orkney. The high levels of investment spend has already benefitted Scottish fish farming equipment suppliers.

The fish produced in Orkney waters is of the highest quality. Farmed salmon has the potential to take the pressure off wild fish stocks. The industry, including Scottish Sea Farms, is investing millions into research and development directed at sustainability. This source of nutritious protein also leaves a relatively light carbon footprint.
