Rerwick Cottage is a fully equipped, two bedroomed, self catering cottage offering you a comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful Isles of Orkney. Enjoy a relaxing stay in stunning surroundings at Rerwick Head, an unspoilt headland steeped in history.
The cottage is ideal for two couples or a family. It comprises of two ground floor double bedrooms with the option of an extra single bed (if required). There is a comfortable sitting room, a bathroom, spacious dining room and kitchen, with an adjacent small pantry housing the BBQ and some out door equipment. The cottage has a wild garden and plenty of private parking space.
Rerwick Cottage is the ideal getaway destination due to its spectacular setting. The cottage is privately situated at the end of a single-track road amidst peaceful farmlands and close to the shore. It provides the perfect location for those seeking peace and quiet.
Rerwick Cottage was built as a replacement farmhouse when the original croft cottage became too small in the early 1900s. The traditional farm house and out buildings still exists on the property today. The cottage was renovated in 2016 but still retains much of its rustic charm. Many of its traditional features such as the original fireplaces and flagstone floors in the kitchen and dining room have been preserved, whilst the cottage now also benefits from modern features like the solar powered roof panels.
The cottage overlooks the main sea route into Kirkwall where small fishing boats, ships, and yachts can often be seen. The headland features what remains of World War Two defences, a magnificent coastline and two interesting beaches.
The cottage enjoys stunning views of the coast and farmlands. There are several fine coastal walks in the area and there is a wide variety of wildlife in the fields and cliffs nearby (Orkney voles, otters, hares, fulmars, gannets, snipe, oystercatchers, curlews and short eared owls are among some of the seasonal residents).
Rerwick is an excellent location for walking, bird watching, a comfortable retreat or a base from which to tour the islands. It is a special place and we think you will love it as much as we do.
Pets are welcome by arrangement.
