Two dedicated freight vessels, MV Hildasay and MV Helliar, in conjunction with two passenger vessels operate on four routes with the Aberdeen to Kirkwall route serviced six days a week. This in partnership with our regular passenger service between Scrabster and Stromness offers daily connections to Orkney from the Scottish Mainland.

NorthLink Ferries’ vessels provide a bespoke, cost effective and reliable freight system which caters for all traffic types including project cargoes for the renewable energy, construction and oil and gas sectors.

Port operations are facilitated with a fleet of Terberg Tractor Units available to discharge and load trailers, containers and a range of outsized and abnormal loads.

NorthLink Ferries use of Scotland’s longest commercial berth, Hatston Quay outside Kirkwall, and proximity to the newly opened Copland’s Dock in Stromness enable supply chain support to both the marine renewables and oil and gas sectors.

A purpose built fleet of double deck livestock containers ensures that all livestock is transported strictly within EEC regulations.

Adherence to legislation and ISO standards

Every load must be secured in accordance with ISO9367 and NorthLink Ferries standard conditions of carriage must also be met.
