EMDR ORKNEY
Simon Tarry; I am a Registered Mental Health Practitioner (with over two decades experience), an EMDR therapist and an accredited mindfulness teacher.Offering therapy and counselling to people suffering from psychological and emotional trauma including domestic abuse, sexual abuse,PTSD. I also give training in mindfulness. I work on Westray and in Kirkwall and the surrounding mainland.
I have an interest in medically unexplained symptoms, functional disorders, chronic pain and Tourettes having worked at a leading national hospital in London specialising in these conditions. I offer a holistic approach to my evidence based practice.
I am registered with the NMC ( Nursing and Midwifery Council), the RCN (The Royal College of Nursing), EMDR Association UK and Ireland, UKPTS ( United Kingdom Psychological Trauma Society).

Unresolved psychological and emotional trauma can have a longterm effect on people causing physical and emotional problems. Physical,sexual and emotional trauma,bullying anxiety, depression and PTSD can be treated by EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing) a powerful form of psychotherapy . EMDR is recommended by National Institute for Health Care Excellence (N.I.C.E) for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Mindfulness is a technique of paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally. Evidence shows it to be effective in helping people experiencing depression and anxiety. It is recommended by NICE as a preventative practice for people with experience of recurrent depression.

Therapy offered:

EMDR therapy is usually eight, ninety minute sessions on a one to one basis.

Mindfulness is eight, two hour sessions. this can be undertaken on a one to one basis or in a group.

Simon also undertakes corporate projects looking at ways companies can reduce worker stress and increase productivity in the workplace using mindfulness and other techniques.He also does conference and workshop work on stress management and mindfulness.
