Mill O Cara
South Ronaldsay
Orkney
KW17 2TQ
Set on the seafront with beautiful views across the water, Mill o Cara is a lovingly converted traditional mill that captures the character and quiet beauty of island life.
The mill has been thoughtfully restored with traditional Orcadian craftsmanship at its heart, celebrating local skills and materials whilst combining the comforts of modern living.
Hand crafted details and original works of art fill the spaces creating a home that feels distinctive, welcoming and deeply connected to Orkney.
At the heart of the home is the spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area – a relaxed and sociable space for cooking, sharing meals and unwinding after a day exploring Orkney. The kitchen is well equipped with all your cooking essentials, and the living room features a stove fire for guests to enjoy. Wooden steps lead up from the kitchen to a cosy mezzanine, ideal for reading, relaxing or enjoying some quiet time.
The bedrooms continue the Mill’s distinctive character, with a hand crafted double box bed in the master bedroom, creating a memorable retreat. Enjoy the spacious walk in wardrobe which provides ample space for your belongings. The property also features 2 twin bedrooms, one leading off of the other with hidden steps, creating a unique sleeping space and making it ideal for families, friends or small groups travelling together.
The bathroom features a shower, wash basin and a toilet.
Outside, the sea is quite literally on your doorstep. Wake to the sound of the water, watch the light change across the shore and enjoy the particular sense of peace that comes from staying on Orkney’s coastline.
The Mill is located on the island of South Ronaldsay, connected to the Orkney Mainland by the Churchill Barriers, and enjoys panoramic views of Scapa Flow and Burray. South Ronaldsay is largely farmland with impressive coastal walks, remnants of WW2 coastal batteries, and at the centre the quiet little village of St Margaret’s Hope with its excellent bars and restaurants, local shops, nine-hole golf course and ferry port.
The Mill has parking for two cars. However, there is an hourly bus service to and from Kirkwall and St Margaret’s Hope which will stops on the road beside the Mill. The back roads on the island are great for walking and cycling.
The property is family friendly, but with steep steps and hard floors, small children should be supervised. High chairs and travel cots are available upon request.
