Named after former resident Captain William Richan, who owned the district of Rapness, the West End Hotel in Kirkwall, and part of the parish of Deerness, Richan's Retreat & Aak Work is the perfect place to stop after arrival in Westray, or just before you board the boat to head back to the Orkney mainland.

The cafe serves a variety of teas and coffees, cold drinks, and snacks, with hot and cold filled rolls and soup available on request. Pets are more than welcome too. There's a variety of beautiful crafts to browse, all handmade in Westray.

Aak Work is a reprographic business, mainly transferring photos, logos, and designs on to different types of media for fundraising groups, individuals or businesses. Images taken in Westray of puffins, lambs or any other activities are reproduced onto items including bags, wallets, coasters, and fridge magnets. These are are sold locally at Richan's Retreat, the Westray Heritage Centre and P. Miller Merchants as souvenirs for the visitor market.

Richan's Retreat & Aak Work is open all-year-round between 8am and 6.30pm, although it's recommended to get in touch prior to your visit if you're travelling outwith the summer months.
