Highland Park House is handy for Kirkwall but also ideally placed to tour the rest of Orkney. We are looking forward to the 2023 season. Two rooms are freshly refurbished with new bathrooms. We have also begun landscaping work around the property. A quick glance at our online reviews will show that we offer a warm welcome and a memorable stay.

Highland Park House is a fabulous late Victorian mansion on the edge of Kirkwall. Built as a residence for whisky magnate James Grant, the house overlooks the world famous Highland Park Distillery and across Kirkwall to the bay and high ground beyond.

Each of the generously sized bedrooms is carefully and individually furnished in a period style. However, most have spacious modern ensuite or private bathrooms. Art nouveau and art deco features are to be found throughout the building and there are many original art works, antiques and unusual artefacts.

Your delicious Scottish breakfast is cooked to order using fresh ingredients and served in our tasteful dining room, full of period charm. There is usually a wonderful atmosphere where guests compare stories and use the maps and guidebooks on hand to plan their day’s adventures. For those travellers with a very early start, we can offer a breakfast “in a bag” to take with you. We do not offer evening meals, but there is an excellent restaurant very close by and a wide choice of dining options in nearby Kirkwall and beyond.

Your hosts, Antony and Aine are both practising artists and musicians. Occasionally there will be teaching activities and performances which further enhance the creative atmosphere in Highland Park House.

We are ideally located for touring Mainland Orkney. All of the major archaeological sites and ferry terminals can be reached in 45 minutes by car. We are less than ten minutes from the airport by taxi and a twenty minute walk or five minute drive from Kirkwall town centre. We have ample free and safe parking in our grounds.

In keeping with our creative atmosphere, we do not have televisions but we have taken care to make sure that good WIFI is available in all parts of the building. Guests may also relax in our music room where they will find sumptuous Chesterfield sofas, a piano and a large open fire place.

Despite the apparent size of the building, Highland Park House is a small, family run business and you will be given a personal service and a pleasurable experience that you should never forget.
