The Flotta Heritage Centre is an excellent introduction to this small island in Scapa Flow and its role in some of Orkney's most important historical moments of the 20th century.

The renovated 1940s cottage complements the numerous wartime sites in Flotta and, along with the barn next door, includes memorabilia covering two World Wars, when Orkney was home to the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet.

You can also find information on the history of life in Flotta, which could help visitors interested in researching family history, ancestry, and genealogy, and the building of the island's oil terminal, which is still in use today.

The Heritage Centre is found next door to the Flotta Post Office. Entry is by donation.
