Fernvalley tearoom nestles by the shore with beautiful views across Gairsay sound to Rousay and six other islands. We serve food, cakes and drinks made with the finest local and organic ingredients.

A warm, friendly welcome awaits you whether you are local or visitors to the islands. We enjoy providing a range of home baked cakes, traybakes and cookies made with organic flours, golden sugars, fresh fruit and rich chocolate (30-70%), you won’t find any cooking chocolate here!

A gluten free and dairy free option is always available.

For a touch of luxury, indulge in our deluxe hot chocolate made with pure chocolate from the Pittenweem Chocolate Company in Fife, Scotland. There are four flavours to choose from including hazelnut praline and Himalayan pink salt and caramel.

Our coffee comes from the Orkney Roastery – Aria – a rich, smooth blend with is also Rainforest Alliance approved. All our teas are organic clipper and we have a range of everyday, decaf and fruit/herbal teas for something a little different.

Light lunches and snacks are served between 10am and 3pm – sandwiches, toasties, cheese or beans on toast or try a firm Fernvalley favourite for children and adults alike – eggy bread! Or why not give our Fernvalley special humus platter a go? Cakes and drinks are served until 4pm.

We use as much local food as we can find – Orkney red cheddar, Orkney eggs and chilli jam from Orkney Island Preserves. Our jams and chutneys are homemade in the on site kitchen.

Homemade soup is available with our own freshly baked bread or as a meal deal with a sandwich or toastie on local bakery bread. Any specials will be on our board when available.

Afternoon teas are available every day we are open – a selection of sandwiches and cakes with a pot of tea for two served in fine bone china. A special treat!

At Fernvalley we aim to help wildlife and vulnerable habitats as much as we can so we try to minimise the use of disposable plastics. Our bottled water comes in glass bottles or free from the tap. Our straws are made of paper or plant starch. We don’t use cartons with drinking straws either, children’s juice served in a small glass or re-usable plastic cup if requested.

Groups are welcome with prior booking.

We look forward to welcoming you!
