Established just ten years ago, the Dounby Butcher has earned a reputation as a champion of high quality Orkney food, with a community minded approach to business that’s been recognised nationally.
Perhaps best known for its much sought after prime Orkney beef and lamb, which comes from the Sinclair family farm at Unigarth in Sandwick, the Dounby Butcher also stocks a wide range of local produce, including pork, vegetables, eggs, fish, cheese, bread and oatcakes. Supporting young local producers is a particular focus for the business, which is managed by Barbara Sinclair.
Voted Scottish Champion Butcher in the 2013 Countryside Alliance Awards, the Dounby Butcher has built up a loyal customer base over the past decade and now supplies to hotels, restaurants and bed & breakfasts throughout Orkney and on the Scottish mainland.
Beef from the Sinclair family’s 200 strong Aberdeen Angus herd was chosen to be served at the 2013 Diner des Grands Chefs, one of the most prestigious gatherings of top chefs in the world.
