Burnside Farm is a four-star Bed & Breakfast, set within a former dairy farm. Come and stay with us and enjoy luxurious facilities, seclusion and home baking, all within a 10 minute stroll from Stromness town centre.
During this Covid-19 time, we're are changing our ways of working to keep us all safe: see our website for full details. We've cut our room number to 2, to accommodate 4 people which will allow us to socially distance at breakfast.
Owners Robbie and Joy have re-furbished Burnside incorporating two rooms for bed and breakfast. It has been decorated and furnished to reflect the 1940s era in which the house was built.
Breakfast is served in our porch which has panoramic views down into Stromness, across to Hoy and over Scapa Flow. You can watch a world of weather flit across the sky from here. Breakfast can start with home-poached fruit, Greek yogurt and cereals. Porridge will be made to order. There is also bere bannocks (click for recipe) - made freshly by Joy. These are traditional Orcadian fare, and very delicious they are too. Made from a uniquely-Orcadian form of barley grown and milled up the road in Birsay, they are deeply flavoured and filling. If you have space, you can have a cooked breakfast, choosing from the traditional favourites, all cooked freshly for you. We use our local butcher, Flett's, for all our meat. Orange juice, tea (standard plus a range of herbal teas) or freshly brewed coffee (or decaffeinated) accompany your morning feast - you won't be hungry till lunch!
