A new exhibition at the Loft Gallery in St Margaret's Hope by Caithness-based artist Monique Sliedrecht will open at the end of July.

Monique lives and works at Freswick Castle in Caithness. Over the years she has had solo exhibitions in Rotterdam, Paris and more recently at the Northlight Gallery in Stromness in 2019 and 2021. Monique has made the crossing over the Pentland Firth many times, and continues to be inspired by the seascapes of Caithness and Orkney.

She writes about her work on display at The Loft Gallery: "I'm excited to bring this work into the light of day and to exhibit in the lovely village of St. Margaret's Hope. It is an honour to be the opening show, the start of a new season at the gallery. The pieces are like small poems or vignettes; windows to a landscape and seascape opening to new vistas, moods and colours."

Monique Sliedrecht is an artist, blogger and podcaster. She writes a monthly column called 'Northern Drift' for the John O'Groat Journal and has just finished the first series of her new podcast, 'Tales From the North', which can be found on all major podcast platforms, or you can find it directly on her website. Monique's most recent blog post sheds some light on the work which is on display at The Loft Gallery: "Travelling across the Pentland Firth to Orkney, my senses are attuned to the sights and sounds in a fresh way."

The gallery is a short distance from the Pentland Ferries crossing from Gills Bay, on Front Road in St. Margaret's Hope.

The Loft Gallery is open Wednesday - Saturday 10am-5pm, and on Tuesdays between 10am and 1pm. The gallery may be closed between 1pm-2pm for cleaning.
