Come and visit an archaeological excavation at Tomb of the Eagles and discover more secrets from this fascinating site.

The dig will be held at the tomb in South Ronaldsay between Monday 24 August and Friday 11 September, focused on the north side of the Neolithic monument and its hornwork features. It's hoped the work will help inform the design of a proposed replica tomb.

During the excavations, which will be held on weekdays for the duration of the dig, visitors are more than welcome to come along to watch, chat to the archaeologists, and join tours and talks led by the Ranger Service.

There will also be a Community Archaeology Weekend on 29 and 30 August, where members of the public can get involved and participate in the excavation itself. There will be hands-on activities at the Visitor Centre, tours of the site, and Hrossey Raptors will be at the tomb on the Saturday too.

Contact the Tomb of the Eagles team for further information or to enquire about the community excavation.

The work will be carried out by the Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) thanks to funding from OIC, CLLD and the Orkney Fund.

Tomb of the Eagles is open from 10am - 5pm with last admissions at 3.30pm. Upon arrival, please visit the admissions desk inside the visitor centre. There is a 20% admissions discount for Orkney residents.
