The Orkney Yole Association has published its first ever book and is hosting a special launch event in Kirkwall this December.
The 244 page A4 landscape publication features full colour photographs and articles on the iconic Orkney Yole. The high quality full page photographs show off the boat in wide-ranging settings, from recent and past regattas, historic photos of flotillas of yoles in and around Orkney, yoles in the company of Tall Ships, yole variants with lugsails, Viking replicas and much more.
The book also includes fascinating articles on the history and development of the boat, its uses in times past, a superbly illustrated article on how to build and restore a yole and exciting tales out at sea in a yole, sailing around Orkney and across the Pentland Firth.
The launch event at Kirkwall's Peedie Kirk will see Maurice Davidson introuce the book and present a selection of slides from its photos.
The event is free but folk planning to attend should register beforehand. One metre social distancing will apply and guests will need to wear masks when moving around the building.
