Head to the St Magnus Centre in Kirkwall for a dynamic evening championing Orkney’s scallop dive sector as a shining example of sustainable fishing in Scotland, delivering high-quality, low-impact seafood.
The event will center around the screening of The Orkney Dive movie, a conversation between chefs, scientists, divers and local businesses in Orkney and around Scotland about scallop diving - and the relationship between sustainable business and a healthy environment.
Produced by Open Seas with the kind support from Patagonia, this short documentary aims to spark a proactive discussion around the importance of prioritising sustainable fishing in Scottish waters and promoting responsible seafood sourcing that doesn't harm marine habitats. Here’s what to expect for the evening:
- Screening of The Orkney Dive (approx. 30 minutes).
- An insightful Q&A session with divers, chefs, and scientists
- Enjoy the Our Seas Coalition’s Coastal Testimonies exhibition, amplifying the voices advocating for healthier seas and stronger coastal communities in Scotland
- A delicious seafood buffet from Loki's Seafood Shack and a sociable and pleasant networking space (BYOB*)
- Informative material from Open Seas, to inspire action towards Orkney marine habitats protection and support a more sustainable seafood system
Come along, enjoy and take action.
A seafood based menu will be served, if you prefer a vegetarian option, please book a "VEGGIE" ticket and the chef will be able to accommodate your preference.
*No alcohol is sold or provided on the premises under any circumstances. This is a bring-your-own-beverage event only (BYOB). Patrons may bring their own alcoholic beverages for personal consumption, if they wish to do so.
We will also be running a free workshop “Protect Our Seas” earlier in the day from 2-4pm. If you want to learn how to engage with elections, lobby candidates, and use marine science to protect our seas, secure your place at the workshop by visiting THIS page. Spaces for the workshop are limited.
Proceeds from all ticket sales will help cover part of the costs of the provided catering.
