We are delighted to offer another chance to hear Peter Lord CBE, Creative Director of Aardman Animations, talk about the animation of Aardman, the company he co-created.

Join us at 7.30pm on Tuesday 27 May 2025 in Stromness Town Hall.

This time we have an ‘In conversation with’ format with local storyteller Tom Muir who aims to probe how the magic produced in making the first Aardman animated film is still present today and how it has been sustained through Peter’s stewardship of over 50 years through a behind the scenes look.

There will be projected slides and video clips not seen previously of the years of unique animated film work of the highly successful Aardman company since its creation in 1973.

He will talk about the successful characters that have become household names and there will be opportunity for the audience to ask questions during the event or stay for a chat with Peter afterwards with a glass of wine/soft drink.

This will equally appeal to young audience members and those who have grown up with their charming and well-loved characters over the years. It promises to be an entertaining and inspirational evening.

Tickets for what will undoubtedly be a popular event are £5 for OAS members, £7 for non-members and £2 for school students, andare available to purchase online in advance via TicketSource or on the door if still available.

PETER LORD is Creative Director of Aardman Animations, which he co-founded in 1972 with his long-time collaborator David Sproxton. Their breakthrough success was with the plasticine character Morph, who later starred in his own series The Amazing Adventures of Morph. They pioneered the technique of stop motion animation, usually with clay puppets, which became the company’s hallmark. As a director, Peter has been honoured with three Academy Award® nominations for Adam in 1992, for Wat’s Pig in 1996 and for his first solo feature The Pirates! Band of Misfits. In November 2018, Aardman became an Employee Owned organisation, ensuring that the studio remains independent and securing the creative legacy and culture of the company for the future. Their most recent successes have been a new Chicken Run story – Dawn of the Nugget’ and Vengeance Most Fowl, a Wallace and Gromit movie that earned two BAFTA awards in 2025. Peter is also a regular and enthusiastic visitor to Orkney, loving its landscape, people and culture.
