Excavation work at The Cairns site in South Ronaldsay begins again during the summer in 2024, and members of the public are welcome along.

Work at the Iron Age broch began back in 2006 and the dig has revealed some fascinating finds, with structures dating right through to the Norse period uncovered.

Archaeologists and students will be back on site from June 10 right through until July 5. During the excavation period the site will be open to the public on weekdays between 10am and 4pm on weekdays. There will also be an open day at the dig on June 28th.
