Stromness Shopping Week is the longest running festival in Orkney, a real celebration of the town and its people.

The annual gala week was launched in 1948 and has become a fantastic showcase of community spirit in and around Stromness, with plenty of fun and games on offer. There are activities and displays throughout the town as well as plenty of events on offer for young folk, including fun runs, workshops and pavement art competitions.

Music plays a big part during the week too with regular performances from the Stromness Royal British Legion Pipe Band and live bands playing at the pierhead and in the pubs. The week comes to a close with the legendary Fancy Dress Parade, an open air dance and some spectacular fireworks on the final Saturday night.
