Book a place on a tour of Stromness Museum to make the most of its fascinating collections.

The tours are led by Museum staff and offer an informative, engaging, and in-depth experience which will allow visitors to connect with people from the past through the stories behind the artefacts.

You will discover how and why the German High Seas Fleet was scuttled in Scapa Flow, explore Orkney's connections with Canada through the Hudson’s Bay Company and the story of Orcadian Arctic explorer, John Rae, and enjoy the Natural History gallery, home to an amazing collection of stuffed birds, Orkney shells, and geology.

You'll even get to meet 'Buddo' from Skara Brae, one of only a handful of human figurines from the British Neolithic.

Tours are held throughout the week until 26 September 2025 and cost £16. They're limited to eight people so booking in advance is essential. Tours last around 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions. Guests will also receive a free copy of the Museum’s Per Mare guide book to help you explore Stromness and discover more about its history through the artefacts in the museum's collections.
