Excavation of the multi-period settlement site at Skaill in Rousay will begin again in July 2024.

The site, which was in use from the Norse period until the 19th century, is also home to a large Norse hall. Found beneath the more recent buildings, this structure was revealed in 2019 and probably dates to the 10th to 12th centuries AD.

The UHI Archaeology Institute dig runs from July 8th until July 26th with visitors welcome on weekdays. There will also be an open day at the dig on July 20th.
