See behind the scenes of Stromness Museum's natural history collections before heading outside for a stroll along the Stromness shore.

The shoreline rambles connect the museum's natural history collection with the Stromness shoreline. You'll get a sneak peek at some of the research collections in the museum before heading outdoors to ramble along the Stromness coast, visiting beaches to find out more about the plants and animals which live there. Stromatolites, sea shells and seaweed, as well as coastal plants will all be encountered.

The shoreline rambles involve walking on uneven surfaces and being on your feet for two hours. Please come dressed for the weather and with sturdy outdoor footwear.

Children are welcomed - young ones aged from six years old will get the most from the experience.

Tickets can be booked online and cost £10 for adults, £5 for children. A Shoreline Ramble family ticket for four people is available for £25.

Access requirements

The upstairs of the natural history gallery is accessed via a spiral staircase. A chair lift is available. However, the walk takes place on uneven ground.
