A special exhibition of handmade quilts inspired by the Northern Isles will be held in Kirkwall this August, alongside the launch of a book featuring them all.

'Quilt: Inspired by Orkney and Shetland' by local textile artist, Rosalind Johansson, showcases her beautiful work, with quilts of all shapes and sizes depicting quintessential island scenes, from ancient stone circles and Viking heritage, to orcas, sea birds, and dramatic landscapes.

The book will also feature a mixture of quilting instructions and anecdotes from Rosalind's many years associated with Orkney and Shetland. It's beautifully illustrated and weaves together original textile designs with fascinating stories, local history, and personal insights.

The exhibition features the quilts included in the book and will be held at 60Vic at 60 Victoria Street in Kirkwall between Monday 10 August and Saturday 15 August, between 1100 and 1600 each day. Copies of the book will be available to browse and order.
