As part of Highlands and Islands Climate Festival, Dr Tim Noble of Heriot-Watt University will give a free talk in association with the museum's "Powered by People" exhibition about Orkney's renewable energy.

Orkney offshore waters are rich in resources ripe for greater exploitation.

Offshore oil may be in decline but natural maritime energies (wind, wave and tide), fish farming and other sectors are expanding now and in plans.

The Orkney offshore dilemmas are to capture economic value for the islands and to win powers of control to protect the environment and a way of life.

Current jurisdictions and laws limit the island ambition.

Dr Tim Noble of Heriot-Watt University describes the problem and considers a different future.
