Come and celebrate all things community climate action at the Orkney Climate Fair this February.
The fair will be held in Kirkwall's King Street Halls on Saturday 7th February between 11am – 5pm and will feature plenty of activities for all ages.
Events on offer include:
- Family activities led by Fiamma Creative Club, including an interactive Climate Storytelling session for children aged 2-6 years and their grown-ups, as well as craft sessions for older children and grown-ups. At these sessions, attendees are invited to make a Zine about finding joy in nature or to make something from old kitchen roll tubes and various other household objects that are usually popped in the recycling bin.
- The Orkney Repair Café will host a mini repair session where attendees can bring along broken household items to have them repaired and avoid landfill. They’ll also be advertising how the Repair Café works and how people can get involved should they wish.
- Orkney Fair Trade Group will demonstrate to attendees just how much textile waste Orkney produces with an installation piece set to make people think twice about how they use textiles in their every day lives.
- The day will conclude with a workshop led by Community Development Officer for Orkney, Francesca Perotti. Members of the public are encouraged to have their say on how Orkney can embrace a stronger circular economy where resources are reused, shared, repaired, and regenerated to benefit people, place, and the planet.
Organised by the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub, the fair will also include a collection of information, craft and retail stalls to help attendees understand more about projects in Orkney which actively tackle the climate crisis and how members of the public can support them to do this.
It's free to attend all day and everyone's welcome - find out more on Facebook. The afternoon workshop requires advanced booking which can be done online or on the day at the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub stand.
