Violinist Charlotte Rowan is regarded as one of Britain’s leading violin virtuosos and has gained recognition for her dazzling virtuosity and gripping communicative power. Accompanied by Charlotte Stevenson on the piano, her concert will chart a fascinating lineage of the violinistic genre and follow a trail of composers through centuries and continents.

The programme will include Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3, Vitali’s Chaconne, Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy, works by Wieniawski, Dohnanyi and Debussy and feature a trilogy of pieces about The Sun to reflect the theme of this year’s Festival.

The concert will be held at King Street Halls, Kirkwall on Tuesday 12th September at 7.30pm.

Born in Scotland, Charlotte was invited at age 16 to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, USA. Selected as concertmistress of the Conservatory Orchestra in her first year, she subsequently performed under the conductor and pianist Leon Fleischer and featured on the Washington Performing Arts Series with Rob Kapilow. During her studies, she was invited to perform for Justice of the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotonayor in Washington DC and participated in masterclasses with Midori and the Juilliard String Quartet.

Regarded as one of Britain’s leading violin virtuosos, she performs extensively as a recitalist in the UK and regularly performs at prestigious venues, chamber music societies and festivals. In recent years, she has continued to develop her international profile with solo appearances in Germany and America and future engagements planned for Paris, Copenhagen, Venice and Ireland.

With her duo partner, pianist Charlotte Stevenson, she has given concert tours around Northern and Central Scotland, Yorkshire, Wales, Southern England, the Midlands, Essex, Kent and East Anglia. They have performed in many of the country’s finest cathedrals including Ely, Chichester, Winchester, Ripon, Chelmsford, Lincoln and Manchester and have given acclaimed appearances at festivals including Edinburgh, Wetherby, Buckingham, East Devon, Harwich, Horsham and Crail.

She has been widely praised by audiences and critics for her “masterful technical command, charismatic stage presence and expressive depth of sound.”
