Join us for a piano recital by Murray McLachlan at Stromness Town Hall on Wednesday 26 October at 7.30pm. Murray will be performing Chopin (Nocturne and two Ballades), Prokofiev (Sonata no. 7), John McLeod (Hebridean Dances), Bach-Busoni,Beethoven, Grieg, R. Stevenson.
Scottish pianist Murray McLachlan has over forty commercial recordings on the market, and holds 'Key Recording' status in the Penguin Guide to CD's and 'Record of the Month' in Music on the Web.
His 2020 recordings of British composers on the Naxos label and the Ruth Gipps Piano Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Phil. have received international acclaim.
Murray McLachlan has chosen everyone's favourite – Frederic Chopin - as the central theme of his concert on Wednesday 26 October in Stromness Town Hall. The great Polish pianist's romantic Ballades No.1 in G minor and No.4 in F minor are storytelling from start to finish.
Frederic Chopin inspired all who heard him in Paris back in the 1840's, but his memory has lived on as a model for others for generations to come; the late Ronald Stevenson's Fugue on a fragment of Chopin is included in Murray's programme. McLachlan himself will introduce a world premiere in his programme - Chopin's dreamy Nocturne in E flat major in Murray McLachlan's 2022 arrangement for left hand alone.
In addition to Chopin, the concert also features Bach's momentous violin Chaconne, transcribed for piano by the Italian virtuoso pianist Ferruccio Busoni. Then comes Beethoven's romantic opus 90 Sonata, John McLeod's scenic Hebridean Dances, and a Ballade by Norwegian composer Eduard Grieg. Rounding off a truly international evening will be Russian Sergei Prokofiev's cataclysmic Sonata No.7.
Tickets: £15 non-members, £11 members, £5 under-25s, £2 school pupils.
