For a short time only, part of the Ness of Brodgar will reopen for excavation again in summer 2026.

Data gathered from Ground Penetrating Radar investigations carried out in 2025 revealed several anomalies below the surface of the Ness. Archaeologists have described it as an ‘exciting discovery’ and, thanks to funding from Time Team, a small team will be back on site in July to investigate the features.

The dig will be open to the public on weekdays between Tuesday 7 July and Thursday 30 July, 2026. There will be two free guided tours each working day, at 11am and 2.30pm. These do not need to be booked – just turn up on site.

Visitors are reminded that the rest of site is now safely tucked away under turf and will remain covered during this new exploratory dig.
