WALKS is a collection of new work made by Orcadian artist Laura Drever, with a focus on some of the places she (re)visited in Orkney during 2020.
Laura Drever is a drawer, painter and (novice) printmaker of the Orkney landscape. The primary focus of her practice has always been the ever-changing character of Orkney’s unique environment. Creating artwork that evokes a sense of time, place and movement is her inspiration. She observes, records and gains a sense of the landscape through walking, gathering memories of location, absorbing elemental changes and minute details. She is responsive to subtle qualities of light and movement within the landscape – birds, weather, vegetation - and is alert and sensitive to the lay of the land, the colours, textures and forms, created and reworked by nature.
Ever since graduating nearly twenty years ago, Laura has worked steadily and committedly to maintaining her practice with regular exhibitions. Her studio is based at home in Kirkwall where she paints. Regularly spending time at Soulisquoy Printmakers Studio contributes to her development in learning new skills and techniques.
