Dr Jane Pottas will give a talk on the history of herbaria, with specific emphasis on seaweed herbaria (algaria), at Stromness Museum on the evening of Thursday 12th February.

Dr Pottas is an intertidal ecologist with a special interest in seaweeds. The talk will focus on the history of herbaria, with some anecdotes, how to prepare specimens, and some examples of herbaria. Jane will discuss how collections are organised (NHM, Whitby, Stromness, Jardin des Plantes in Paris), uses of herbaria, and the future for herbaria.

The talk is free but booking is essential.
