The Pier Arts Centre’s 2022 artistic programme launches this month with an exhibition of work by nine of Orkney’s emerging artists.
CREATIVE VARIANTS – Orkney’s Art Graduates 2019 to 2021, on display between 12 February-19 March, brings together the work of the latest group of Orkney artists to have graduated from art schools and universities around the country, including Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh Napier University and Orkney College UHI.
The artists included in the exhibition are Samantha Gray, Cody Hay, Adela Kałuzińska, Brandon Logan, Kelly Marwick, Leah Moodie, Ruth Tait, Chloe Wooldrage and Sarah Wylie.
Many of the artists included in this year’s cohort of recent graduates have not been able to enjoy some of the usual experiences associated with their study, such as celebrating their work through a degree show.
Pier Arts Centre Director Neil Firth commented “It has been a tough time for so many over recent years, and we are delighted to be able to give these emerging artists an opportunity to show the fruits of their hard work on home turf, and to present their work to the public.”
The exhibition, sponsored by Sheila Fleet Jewellery, features artists who work in a broad variety of media including painting, landscape architecture and graphic design.
Founder and Creative Director, Sheila Fleet commented “By exhibiting at the Pier Arts Centre I hope it will help emerging artists to show their exciting new artworks to the public and give them the confidence to go on to enjoy a lifetime of creative projects in Orkney.”
