Established in 2012, West Side Cinema offers the edge of world cinema in a relaxed and social atmosphere – themed music, cabaret style table seating and you can ‘bring your own’ drinks and snacks.

Considered the best film ever made about alien visitation to Earth, Steven Spielberg's classic film depicts three interconnected stories - Roy Neary, a blue-collar worker in Indiana whose life changes after an encounter with a UFO; Jillian Guiler, a single mother whose three-year-old son is abducted during the same UFO manifestation; and Claude Lacombe, a French scientist pursuing a link between recent unexplained scientific phenomena across the globe.

Spielberg's dissatisfaction with the altered ending of the second release in 1980 led to a third version, the Director's Cut in 1998, now remastered in 4K.

This showing is in collaboration with Stromness Glimmers 2026: A Festival of Light. In the dark evenings of 12–14 November 2026, Móti Collective's inaugural light festival will transform the streets of Stromness into a free, spectacular gallery of illuminated video projections and sculptural light art installations via a walking trail through the town – reimagining familiar places through the eyes of artists. The festival will coincide with Móti Collective’s 10-year anniversary.
