Focus on William Shearer
Our latest Business Focus feature takes a closer look at one of Orkney's most popular shops, Kirkwall's William Shearer.
The Orkney Food and Drink member was established in 1857 before moving to its current premises in Victoria Street two years later. It's safe to say it has become a vital part of the town's shopping experience, drawing people in with its wide range of goods - from fresh fruit and veg to specialist health foods; fishing tackle to ammunition, gardening tools and much more.
The shop is also at the heart of Orkney's agricultural industry too, selling grass seed across the islands and further afield, to Caithness and Shetland.
In recent years the shop has put a big emphasis on its Christmas offering with a beautiful bespoke festive section, complete with roaring fire and some decidedly Christmassy goods!
