Orkney Travel

There are plenty of modes of transport to get you round Orkney if you want a break from driving, although car hire is available.

Ferries between Orkney’s islands run every day apart from some Sundays to some islands in the winter.  Orkney Ferries operate from several harbours to get you linked to the isles.  Loganair operates flights to most isles most days, depending on the destination.  Cycles may be hired in Stromness or Kirkwall and cars in Kirkwall, Hatston and Kirkwall as well as the isles. Airport and camper vans may be hired at Orphir. Taxis operate from Kirkwall, Stromness and the isles.  There are timetable and on demand buses around mainland and many of the isles.  Coaches may be hired for trips and there are several companies offering tours around Orkney’s sites both on mainland Orkney and the isles with themes such as archaeology, wildlife and history.  Boat trips and cruises are also on offer and can be tailor-made for wildlife viewing, sea angling and fishing.
