  • Strong Orkney presence for this year's Royal Highland Show

Eleven Orkney food, drink and creative businesses are set to showcase their products and fly the flag for the islands at this year’s Royal Highland Show, which gets underway at Ingliston, near Edinburgh, on Thursday (23 June).

The four-day event, celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2022, is the pinnacle of the Scottish agricultural calendar with over 2,000 livestock competitors and more than 1,000 trade exhibitors.

Supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Orkney Islands Council (OIC), the 11-strong Orkney contingent will be the largest to attend the show in recent years and there are high hopes for the trip.

“We’re really excited to be taking such a large group of Orkney businesses to the Royal Highland Show in its 200th anniversary year, particularly after the turmoil of the pandemic and its impact on our normal programme of trade and retail events,” said Edgar Balfour, project manager for Orkney Food and Drink and Creative Orkney.

“All the indications are that this year’s show will be very well attended which gives us an opportunity to showcase Orkney to a huge audience. We’re delighted therefore to have our colleagues from Destination Orkney with us to help spread the wider message about the islands.”
