Business Focus - Elaine Henderson

Our latest Business Focus feature takes a closer look at a member of Orkney's creative community, Stromness-based potter Elaine Henderson.

Elaine and her husband Mike moved to Orkney more than a decade ago after she retired from her career as a music teacher. She had discovered pottery via an evening class and spent her early months travelling up and down from the islands to the central belt to complete a degree in the subject.

That time was well spent, and Elaine quickly became a member of the Orkney Crafts Association, working from her studio in the heart of the historic town centre of Stromness.

Her work continues to evolve as her experiences do, and Orkney always plays a role in her creative process, with inspiration coming from the land, the sea and the sky surrounding the islands.

Her new career may be in pottery, but Elaine still draws on her teaching experience, offering workshops and tutorials to potential potters of the future.

Find out more about Elaine and her work with our special video and blog.
