Orkney’s producers of food and drink can become members of the aptly named Orkney Quality Food and Drink group. Quality is everything in Orkney from the clean environment on land and sea to the high expertise and production standards. Members of OQFD are represented locally and nationally to promote continued growth in this important industry for Orkney. The county’s fish, shellfish, meat, dairy products, baking, whisky, wine and beers are marketed far away from our shores. Members regularly win top awards at food exhibitions and shows hundreds of miles away, such as the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh and the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham.
At home OQFD is at work too to promote its members. Most years it runs a food awards event to recognise those who make the best use of local produce and serve it well in hotels and restaurants, cafes and takeaways, with awards presented at a dinner showcasing Orkney the best of food and drink.
